Elizabeth Bauman has been weaving narratives for different media throughout her career—writing and photographing stories for newspapers, writing radio scripts, researching and writing pieces for magazines, writing and editing books, and telling stories through visual displays. Katrina is the first story she has written for the stage, marrying her varied media background to her love of musical theater. Hurricane Katrina was the perfect subject for Elizabeth to apply her researching skills and media savvy to create a show based on actual print and broadcast news reports but featuring fictional characters.
David Frumkin is a talented and versatile musician who plays violin, guitar, bass, mandolin, and banjo. He has been a member of many bands featuring different music styles—from rock to folk to Dixieland to bluegrass to Klezmer to the jazz combo he currently leads. David has written songs to be performed and recorded, but Katrina is the first show for which he has composed a full score. In composing for Katrina, his principal influences were Broadway musicals and the Great American Songbook. His songs have rich melodies and powerful, emotional lyrics.
