In “We Survived” four New Orleans residents, portrayed by Joshua Dykes, Sirus Desnoes, Karen Veaner, and Kimmi Neuschulz, recount all the serious hurricanes they have lived through.
Jasmine, played by Grace Traore, sings “Dreamer” as she rehearses for her gig at Sam’s Quarter Note.
Andrew Hudson-Sabens as Beau sings “Make That Woman Swoon” to Sam to help him charm Violet back into his arms.
Marie, played by Jaime Warburton, and the ensemble sing “Evacuate They Say” in response to Mayor Nagin’s mandatory evacuation order.
Adara Alston as the voodoo priestess Larinda sings “Katrina” to try to ward off devastation by the hurricane.
Kimmi Neuschulz, Emily Aviles, and Sirus Desnoes portray a gospel choir that is joined by other characters to sing “Rain, Rain on Pontchartrain,” the first song of Act II, as the levees are breaking.
Beau, played by Andrew Hudson-Sabens, sings “Always By My Side” as he decides whether to get lifted to a helicopter or risk his life to stay on the roof with his dog.
A Superdome resident, played by Emily Aviles, and Marie, played by Jaime Warburton, sing “Abandoned By America” in reaction to President Bush’s callous indifference to their suffering inside the make-shift shelter.
Exhausted and hungry people fleeing the convention center try to cross the bridge to Gretna, only to be turned back by gun shots from a police officer, portrayed by Karen Veaner. Singing “No Exodus” are Andrew Hudson-Sabens (as Beau), Joshua Dykes, Sirus Desnoes, Emily Aviles, Kimmi Neuschulz, and Alek Osinski.
